How to play Crokinole online
- Choose a free spot on your baseline. Set the aim angle and power, or drag towards the direction you want. Press Flick to commit the shot.
- If an enemy disc is on the board, contact it directly or through your own disc. If none is present, finish an involved own disc touching the middle scoring area or in the 20 hole.
- After eight discs per player, compare ring scores and pocketed twenties. Award two match points for a round win or one each for a tie, then play the next of four rounds.
Controls
Use Place ° to choose a baseline position, Angle ° for direction and Power for speed. A blocked launch spot moves to the nearest available spot marked on the board. Numeric inputs and ±0.1 buttons provide fine control. Dragging changes the aim without firing; press Flick to shoot. Enter or Space flicks, H offers a hint, U/Z or Ctrl/Cmd+Z undoes, and N starts the next round. Score and Help open separate dialogs.
A tip before you start
Contact comes before points. A lovely twenty is invalid if an enemy disc was present and you never touched it. In a combination shot, plan the own-disc contact as carefully as the final stop: every struck disc may be removed when the attempt is invalid.
How to play Crokinole
Each player receives eight discs per round. Turns alternate, and the starter changes between rounds. Navy launches from the lower quadrant, while burgundy launches from the upper quadrant. Place your shooting disc so that it touches your baseline and stays inside the playing surface. This implementation finds the nearest free baseline position when the requested one is occupied.
Crokinole board game rules: contact before scoring
When the opponent has any disc on the playing surface, your shooting disc or an own-disc chain must contact an opponent's disc. With no opponent present, at least one involved own disc must finish touching or inside the 15 area, or fall into the centre hole. Failure removes your shooter and all discs struck in that shot, including discs that entered the hole. A twenty belongs to the owner of the disc, even if the other player caused it.
Crokinole scoring and the boundary lines
A fully pocketed disc earns 20. Remaining discs earn 15 in the central ring, 10 in the next ring and 5 in the outer scoring ring. The disc's bottom edge touching a line receives the lower value. A disc left touching the outermost line is removed. After sixteen shots, compare the totals: the higher total wins two match points and a tie gives one each. Four rounds form a game, so a 4–4 draw is possible. The Score dialog preserves the raw totals and match-point awards for each finished round.
How to play the Crokinole board game on a phone
The board, turn status and essential controls share the visible game area. Choose fine values with the numeric controls or use a drag for coarse direction and power. The arrow shows direction, not a guaranteed stopping point. A cancelled touch restores the previous settings; it does not spend a disc. Help and scores use separate dialogs. Full screen is optional, and the same controls work with a mouse or keyboard.
Crokinole: how to play combination shots
An own disc can carry the contact into an enemy disc. The later practice groups introduce this requirement explicitly, followed by touching two distinct enemy discs. In the full game, any legal enemy contact satisfies the contact rule; the extra training requirements apply only where a practice level lists them. Control speed as well as angle, because a hard collision can send both discs out of useful scoring positions.
Twenty precision drills
These are authored one-shot training setups, rather than positions claimed to have arisen during a match. Your shooting disc's centre must stop inside the marked target, while the listed contact requirements are met. Every next level has a smaller target radius, from 1.800 to 0.197 inches. Five open approaches lead into direct contact, own-disc combinations and double-enemy contact. Each group contains five tighter targets. Two hints set a verified workable aim, and Undo does not refund them.
What is the Crokinole game?
Crokinole is a tabletop disc-flicking game built around a circular board, pegs and a central hole. This version follows the NCA singles four-round scoring structure and core contact rules, with an explicitly simplified flat-disc simulation. It supports a computer opponent and two people passing the same device; it does not provide remote multiplayer rooms.
The simulation used at this table
Discs collide with other discs and eight pegs, slow under fixed friction and enter an absorbing ditch when they leave the surface. A fully aligned, sufficiently slow disc drops into the centre hole; a fast disc can pass over it. The simulation does not model aerial shots, upright spinning discs, stacked discs or re-entry off the backboard. It is a teaching game rather than a calibrated physical-board or tournament-certified replica. Its 13-inch surface radius, 4/8/12-inch scoring radii and 1.25-inch discs set the digital scale.
Undo, hints and saved progress
Undo restores your whole human turn together with the computer reply, or the last Next round action. Restart repeats the current setup after confirmation; New game changes the seed. A computer-started opening has no human turn to undo. The computer searches public board positions and uses a small deterministic aiming variation without changing a moving disc's path. Practice unlocks, best results and sound preferences save locally. Unfinished matches restart after reload; unavailable storage keeps progress for the current session.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I learn how to play the Crokinole game?
Start with the first open-approach drill and use Help for the contact and scoring rules. After five smaller targets, later drills introduce enemy contact and combinations. You can then play a complete four-round singles game.
Why did my twenty disappear?
If an enemy disc was on the board, you had to contact an enemy directly or through an own-disc chain. An invalid shot removes the shooter and every struck disc, including a disc that entered the twenty hole.
Does a disc touching the 15 line get fifteen points?
No. Its bottom edge touching that scoring line gives the lower value, ten points. The same lower-ring rule applies at the 10 and 5 boundaries; a disc left touching the outer line is removed.
Are these the traditional hundred-point rules?
This table uses the NCA four-round singles format: two match points for a won round, one each for a tie. It does not use the traditional accumulated score-difference race to 100, doubles or five-hole rules.
Can two people play together?
Yes, choose Two players and pass the same device between turns. There are also CPU matches and solo precision drills. Remote rooms are not part of this version.
