Play Lights Out Online
Lights Out is a lights out puzzle game where one press changes several lanterns. Tap a square to switch its own lantern and the lanterns immediately above, below, left and right. Lit lanterns turn off and dark lanterns turn on. The goal is to leave the whole board dark.
How to play Lights Out online
- Look at which lanterns are lit before choosing a square.
- Press a lantern to switch it and its four straight neighbors.
- Turn every lantern off to unlock the next board.
Controls
Tap with touch or a mouse. Previous and Next select a square, and Switch presses it. Undo reverses one press. Hint takes one step from a shortest solution while hints remain.
A tip before you start
Pressing the same square twice cancels its effect. Think about a group of presses together, especially along the edges where fewer neighbors change.
Start with a 3×3 Lights Out game
The first five boards use a three-by-three grid. Later challenges expand to four-by-four, five-by-five and six-by-six, adding more interacting switches. The exact minimum number of presses rises at every level, from one to twenty.
Solvable starts and precise hints
Each starting board was generated by legal toggles and checked with binary linear algebra, including all alternative solution patterns. There is no timer or move limit, and any legal sequence of presses keeps the board solvable. The hint allowance falls from twenty to one.

Is this the same as Akari or Light Up?
No. Here you switch existing lanterns off by toggling neighbors. Akari is a different game about placing lights around walls.
Can a dark lantern be pressed?
Yes. You may press any square, whether its lantern is lit or dark.
How is progress saved?
Unlocked challenges, best scores and sound settings are saved in this browser when local storage is available. An unfinished board resets after a reload. Restart asks for confirmation and keeps your unlocked challenges.
Can I play on a phone or computer?
Use touch or a mouse, or focus the labeled action buttons with a keyboard. The board fits its game window and switches to a portrait layout on phones. Help opens in its own dialog, and full screen is available where supported.
