How to play Four in a Row online

  1. Choose Two players for a shared-device match, Vs computer for a full solo game, or Challenges for tactical positions. White, Player 1, goes first in full games.
  2. Select any column with room. Your stone falls to the lowest empty cell, then the other player takes a turn. A full column cannot accept another stone.
  3. Connect four horizontally, vertically or diagonally to win. If all 42 spaces fill without a winning line, the game is a draw.

Controls

Click or tap a column, or use the numbered Column buttons. Hint highlights a suggestion; you still choose whether to play it. Undo reverses your move and the computer reply, or one single move in Two players. Help, sound, pause, restart and full-screen controls stay beside the board. Mode changes and restarts ask before replacing the position.

A tip before you start

Check for an immediate win and an opponent's three-stone threat before building your own line. A diagonal gap only becomes playable once the spaces below it are filled. Try to create two winning threats that your opponent cannot block with one drop.

A complete match on one device

Two players starts with an empty 7 × 6 board. Share a computer, tablet or phone and pass each turn to the other player. This is local play in a browser: there are no online rooms or remote opponents. Vs computer uses the same full board and rules, with a bounded search opponent that can be beaten.

Twenty proved tactical challenges

Challenges start from positions reached through legal play from an empty board. Play white and force a win within the displayed number of your own moves. The target grows from one to four moves; required winning depth never decreases and measured proof-search work rises across the sequence. Every starting target is verified against every legal opponent response. Individual puzzles may feel easier or harder to different players.

Recover a missed tactic

The computer resists in challenges. If black wins, the board draws or the move target runs out, use Undo or Restart to try another line. A hint reports when the target is no longer forced from your current position. Only challenge wins unlock later challenges; full matches keep that progress separate.

Browser play, controls and saving

Play free without a download or account and with no ads. The board and essential controls scale to the available screen, with rules in a separate Help dialog. Unlocks, best scores and sound settings save in this browser when storage is available. An unfinished board resets after reload; clearing local storage removes saved progress.
