How to play Texas 42 online

A tip before you start
A tile containing trump cannot follow its other number. Before spending a count tile, check whether your partner can keep the trick and whether an opponent is void in the lead.
Four players, two partnerships
You and Partner sit opposite West and East and play clockwise. Every deal uses all twenty-eight double-six dominoes, with seven tiles per player. Unlike the three-player Moon domino game, Texas 42 uses fixed partnerships and count tiles as well as tricks. This edition uses a declared straight-marks profile with seven possible pip-trump suits.
Bid once, then choose trump
The player left of the dealer bids first. Each player has one turn to pass or make a higher bid. The opening range is 30 through 41 points, then one mark or two marks. Once a mark bid is highest, the next bidder can raise by exactly one mark. A mark bid requires all seven tricks. If everyone passes, Next deal rotates the dealer and deals again without awarding marks. The highest bidder chooses a trump number from zero to six and leads.
Trump belongs to only one suit
Every tile containing the chosen number belongs exclusively to trump. With threes trump, 3–5 cannot follow a five lead when you hold another non-trump five. A non-trump lead names its larger end: 5–6 leads sixes. When following a non-trump lead, either end can match, so that same 5–6 can follow fives or sixes. Within a suit, the double ranks highest, followed by the remaining tiles in descending order of their other end.
Follow suit and protect the count
You must follow the led suit if you can. If you cannot, play any tile; neither trumping nor overtrumping is compulsory. The highest trump wins the trick, or the highest tile of the led suit when no trump is played. The winner leads next. Consider your partner’s current winning tile before taking over a trick: it may be more useful to contribute count or save a strong trump.
Where the forty-two points come from
Each of seven tricks earns one point. The 0–5, 1–4 and 2–3 tiles each add five points; 4–6 and 5–5 each add ten. Those thirty-five count points plus seven trick points total forty-two. For a bid from 30 through 41, the bidding partnership must reach its bid. A mark bid requires every point and therefore every trick. Extra points never create extra marks.
Complete a match to seven marks
A made contract awards the bidding team one mark for a 30–41 bid, or the stated number of marks for a mark bid. If the contract is set, the other team receives those marks. The first partnership to at least seven marks wins. Dealer rotates after every deal. Texas 42 finishes all seven tricks for a complete count ledger even when the contract has already been decided. Full-match computers use only their own tiles and public bids and plays, with a casual policy rather than an expert-strength claim.
Twenty original count-control studies
Each study starts after a legal auction, trump selection and sequence of plays from a complete shuffled deal. All four remaining hands are revealed. Your partner supports your team’s count while both opponents minimize it. Guarantee at least the displayed final team count total, including points already won. That teaching target is separate from the original contract: meeting a target of nineteen points does not make a thirty-point bid or win an entire match.
Practice consequential decisions
The studies progress from two remaining tiles per hand toward four and add more outcome-changing choices. Every first option and exact team value was checked independently. Any move preserving the target is accepted; two hints can select a preserving tile for you to confirm. If your choices lose the target, the end-of-deal result explains the count and Undo lets you compare your previous decision. Unlocks progress through all twenty studies.
Know this edition’s options
This straight profile does not use Nello, Plunge, Sevens, No trump, Doubles trump, small-end opening, compulsory dealer bidding or money stakes. These are other rule choices, not hidden buttons. Pause, Help, Score & tiles and backgrounding suspend the computers. Undo restores your last decision and subsequent replies, including scoring and deal changes, without refunding hints. Restart repeats the starting deal after confirmation; New match uses a fresh one. Validated local histories preserve your progress when browser storage is available, and recoverable notices handle loading, storage and computer errors.

In full matches each computer uses only its own hand and public information. Studies deliberately reveal every remaining hand and use exact team-count analysis.
Can I play Nello or online friend rooms?
This version provides seven pip-trump suits, straight marks and local CPU play. Nello, other special contracts and online rooms are not included.
Can I undo or resume my match?
Yes. Undo restores your last decision and all replies and mark changes after it. Hints stay spent. Validated progress resumes in the same browser when local storage is available.
