How to play Call Bridge online

  1. Choose a full five-deal CPU match or an open-hand study.
  2. In a full deal, inspect your thirteen cards and make an independent call from two to thirteen.
  3. Play counterclockwise, following suit or using a winning spade when the rules require it.
  4. Finish on your call or one extra trick. After five deals, the highest cumulative score wins.

Controls

Tap a card to select it, then press Play card to commit. Arrow keys move focus, Enter selects and P or Space plays. Adjust your call with Call minus or Call plus, then confirm it. H requests a study hint, U undoes a study turn, and C starts the next deal. Board & calls pauses the table for inspection.

A tip before you start

Watch both edges of your target. With a call of four, taking four or five tricks succeeds, but a sixth trick loses the call. When you are void in a suit, check whether a winning spade is compulsory before planning a discard.

Four independent players, thirteen cards each

Call Bridge uses a full 52-card deck, with Ace high and spades always trump. Cards, calls and play move counterclockwise, starting to the dealer's right. There are no partnerships. Each player calls separately before the first trick, and the winner of a trick leads the next. Any card may lead, including a spade on the first trick. This edition follows Pagat's basic Call Bridge profile and its documented five-deal match variation.

Follow suit without being forced to beat it

If you hold the led suit, you must play that suit, but may choose a lower or higher card. This also applies when spades were led. A high card can therefore be kept for later even if it could win now. The highest spade takes the trick; when nobody plays a spade, the highest card of the led suit takes it.

When a winning spade is compulsory

If you cannot follow suit and no spade is already in the trick, you must play a spade if you have one. If the trick has already been trumped, you must play a higher spade when possible. When none of your spades can win, any card is legal, including a lower spade. For example, a player void in hearts who holds the ace of spades must beat an existing king of spades. A player holding only low spades may discard another suit instead.

More tricks can mean fewer points

Success means taking exactly your call or one extra trick. A successful call below eight adds that call to your score. A successful call of eight or more instead adds thirteen points. Missing the interval subtracts the call. Call four and take four or five for plus four; take three or six for minus four. Call nine and take nine or ten for plus thirteen; any other result costs nine. Calling thirteen is allowed, but calling twelve covers both twelve and thirteen for the same successful bonus.

A complete five-deal computer match

Each deal begins with thirteen cards per player and fresh calls. The dealer moves right after scoring. The match ends after five deals; the highest cumulative total wins and equal high totals share the result. Board & calls keeps a ledger of calls, tricks, score changes and running totals. The normal computers estimate calls and choose legal cards from their own hands and public information. They do not receive other players' hidden cards or future deals, and the heuristic does not claim expert play.

Twenty original open-hand studies

Study mode shows all four remaining hands and starts after documented legal plays from complete deals. Finish within your fixed call interval against three defenders who choose to stop your target. This teaching model is explicitly different from the independent opponents in a normal match. Every study has a winning first choice and at least one losing alternative. Remaining hands grow from three to five cards, while the continuation graph grows strictly from 316 to 75,027 states and consequential human choice positions from six to 3,180. An independent terminal solver verifies the alternatives. These structural measures describe the curriculum, not a personal skill rating.

Hints explain the target and Undo restores the reply

A study hint selects a card that preserves the call interval against every legal opposing reply, when such a card remains. If the target can no longer be guaranteed, the message recommends Undo. Two hints are available and reduce the study score. Undo restores your last card and all following computer replies; it never refunds a hint. Studies finish by playing the complete remaining hand. Normal matches have no undo and keep the other hands hidden.

Keep this rule profile separate from other versions

Call Bridge and Call Break names cover several regional profiles. This edition has no initial unbid round, decimal overtrick bonus, required overtaking while following suit, broken-spade restriction, no-spade redeal or minimum combined call. Its excess-trick penalty begins at two tricks above the call, not at double the call. It is also different from partnership contract Bridge. Check these details before applying advice from another edition.

Pause, inspect and continue later

Select-and-confirm controls protect against accidental plays, and dragging away cancels a tap. Pause, Help, Board & calls and leaving the window suspend the computers. Restart repeats the initial seed after confirmation; New match chooses a fresh one. Local storage preserves validated histories, current calls, the score ledger, study unlocks and sound when available. Invalid saves and unavailable storage show notices, and failed artwork loads can be retried. There are no online rooms or cash stakes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play the Call Bridge card game online for free?

Yes. Call Bridge runs in the browser with no ads, download or account. It includes a full five-deal computer match and twenty original open-hand studies.

Must I play a higher card when following suit?

No. In this edition, following the led suit is compulsory when possible, but overtaking is not. This includes a trick led with spades.

Can I play a lower spade when another spade is already winning?

If you are void in the led suit and have a higher spade, you must use a winning spade. If none of your spades can win, any card is legal, including a lower spade. If spades were led, ordinary following-suit rules apply.

Why did taking six tricks lose my call of four?

This profile permits exactly the call or one extra trick. A call of four succeeds with four or five tricks; six is two over, so it scores minus four.

Why are all hands visible in a study?

The study is an open-information planning exercise with three defenders trying to prevent your call interval. A normal five-deal match keeps opposing hands hidden and uses independent computer players.

Is this contract Bridge or every version of Call Break?

No. Contract Bridge uses partnerships and a different auction. Call Break and Call Bridge also have regional variants; Call Bridge uses the specific counterclockwise, call-or-one-extra profile explained on this page.

Can I save, undo or play with friends?

A validated local history can resume when storage works. Study mode offers whole-turn Undo; normal matches do not. The opponents are computers, with no online friend rooms or same-device multiplayer mode.
