How to play Typing Practice online
- Read the note before beginning. Your first character starts the clock; opening a keyboard layout does not.
- Copy each character in order, including spaces, capital letters and punctuation. The underline marks the next character.
- A wrong character uses one mistake but leaves your position unchanged. Type the expected character to continue, or use Backspace to remove the last completed character.
- Finish the whole note before time runs out and within the mistake allowance to unlock the next practice level.
Controls
Type with a physical keyboard, or tap the on-screen letter keys. Shift supplies one uppercase letter, ?123 opens numbers and punctuation, and ABC returns to letters. Space inserts a space. Backspace removes your last completed character without refunding previous mistakes. Holding a key does not repeat it; browser shortcuts and IME composition are ignored. Sliding away from a tapped key cancels that touch.
A tip before you start
Read a few words ahead and keep a steady rhythm. A hurried wrong character takes time to correct and still counts toward the mistake allowance. Before a capital letter or number, find the required on-screen layout if you are using touch input.
Twenty notes with increasing demands
The first note has 27 characters and a target pace of 6 words per minute. By level twenty, the note has 163 characters and a target of 25 words per minute. Every level increases both the sentence length and the required average pace. Later notes add capitals, punctuation and numbers, so the progression asks for more than repeating a new random sentence.
What the WPM and accuracy counters measure
Five characters, including spaces, count as one word. The displayed WPM divides the number of currently completed characters by five and by active elapsed minutes; it appears after the first second. Keystroke accuracy is correct character presses divided by all character presses, including retries. Backspace and layout buttons do not count as character presses. These two counters describe this attempt rather than a standardized typing score.
A time budget and a clear mistake allowance
Each note's time budget comes from its character count and target pace. The mistake allowance is displayed beside the board. A wrong character does not skip ahead, and Backspace does not erase an earlier mistake. Exceeding the allowance or running out of time ends that attempt; Restart provides a fresh attempt after confirmation.
Use the whole keyboard on a phone
The on-screen keyboard includes letters, digits, punctuation, Shift, Space and Backspace, so every note can be completed by touch. The note, current position and keyboard share the game canvas. Physical typing and touch typing involve different input methods; compare your own attempts on a consistent setup.
Pause and return to the same note
Pause, Help, leaving the tab or losing window focus stop the practice clock. Return to continue the current attempt. Restarting or choosing another level asks for confirmation. Unlocked levels, best scores and the sound preference save locally when storage is available; an unfinished attempt restarts after a page reload.
Original garden artwork and writing
The tabletop, notebook setting and illustrated keycaps use original artwork. The twenty short practice passages are original English writing about everyday garden tasks. All required game controls fit within the game window, with longer instructions in Help.
Frequently asked questions
Can I play without a physical keyboard?
Yes. The on-screen keyboard supplies every letter, number and punctuation mark used in all twenty notes. Use Shift for the next uppercase letter and ?123 for digits and punctuation.
Why did the underline stay in place after my key press?
The character did not match the note. It counts as a mistake and leaves the current position unchanged. Type the underlined character to continue.
Does Backspace remove a mistake?
No. It removes the most recently completed character, but earlier wrong presses remain in the accuracy history and mistake total.
When does the timer start?
It starts when you enter your first character, including an incorrect character. Reading the note or changing the on-screen keyboard layout before typing does not start it.
Does pausing use up my remaining time?
No. Pause, Help, leaving the tab and losing focus stop the practice clock. The clock continues when the attempt becomes active again.
Are the notes random or copied from books?
No. The game has twenty fixed, original notes with progressively longer text and a higher required pace. Replaying a note lets you practice that same passage again.
