Word Scramble is a word scramble game for adults who want time to think. Rearrange a small rack of letters into English words and fill the displayed word-length slots. Any accepted word of the right length can fit, so you can solve a level your own way instead of guessing one hidden answer.
How to play Word Scramble online
- Tap letter tiles or type with a keyboard to build a word. Each tile can appear once in that word; repeated letters need separate matching tiles.
- Choose Submit or press Enter. A new word of the right length fills an empty target slot. Other accepted words earn a bonus. The rack becomes available again after an accepted answer.
- Fill every slot to finish the level. Use Definition for an original clue, Letter hint for a starting-letter suggestion, or Shuffle to see the same rack in a different order.
Controls
Tap tiles on the board or type A–Z. Enter submits, Backspace removes the last tile, Escape clears the current selection, and Ctrl+Z undoes the last edit, submission or shuffle. The screen buttons provide the same main actions. Pause, sound, Help, restart and full-screen controls sit beside the game; restarts and level changes ask for confirmation.
A tip before you start
Start with the longest slot, then reuse its letters to look for shorter words. Watch repeated letters carefully: TEACHER has two E tiles, so both are available. Common endings such as -ING and -S can help you spot longer forms in later racks. First-letter hints suggest one answer, but other dictionary words of the same length still count.
Twenty challenges with more to solve
Required word slots grow from two to eight, and the total number of letters needed to fill them increases every level from 8 to 64. Racks grow from five to ten tiles. Later stages require longer words and introduce more abstract terms and derived forms, while automatic first-letter suggestions and optional letter hints decrease. There is no countdown.
Different valid answers are welcome
The game checks an American-English ESDB word list filtered to the rack. Each level accepts every included word that can be built from its letter counts. A matching length fills a target slot; another length earns a bonus. Words already found cannot count twice. Proper names, punctuation, words shorter than three letters and selected abbreviation entries are outside this game dictionary.
Clues without a hidden-answer trap
Definition gives an original MangoFun description of one possible answer for the next empty slot. It does not restrict you to that answer. Clear, Backspace, Shuffle and Undo remain available without a timer. Used letter hints stay spent after Undo, and the Help dialog includes word-list attribution and permission.

Play free with no download, account or ads. Unlocked levels, best scores and sound settings save in this browser when storage is available. Unfinished boards do not resume after a reload. Clearing local storage removes saved progress. The layout scales to the available screen, with Help in a separate dialog.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my answer differ from the definition clue?
A clue suggests one valid answer. Any unused word in the level's dictionary that uses the available tiles and matches an empty slot's length is accepted, even if its meaning is different.
Does the game accept every English word?
No dictionary contains every possible word. This game uses a documented American-English ESDB list, filtered to lowercase alphabetic entries of at least three letters and to the current rack, with selected abbreviation exclusions. A rejected spelling is reported as outside this game list, not as proof it is never an English word.
Can I reuse a letter?
You can use each physical tile once in one word. If the rack contains two E tiles, you may use E twice. All tiles return after an accepted word.
What counts as a bonus word?
A new accepted word earns a bonus when no empty target slot has its length. Bonus words do not replace the remaining length goals, and duplicate words never score again.
Are these word scramble games for adults timed?
No. All twenty challenges are untimed. More required letters, longer targets and fewer letter hints create the progression.
What does Undo restore?
Undo restores the previous letter edit, cleared selection, word submission or shuffle. It can also reopen a just-completed board. Letter hints remain spent and previously earned level unlocks stay saved.
