How to play Triangular Peg Solitaire online

  1. Select an occupied peg, then the empty hole two spaces beyond a neighboring peg. You can also drag from the starting peg to its landing.
  2. Jump along a straight line on the triangular board. The neighbor between the start and landing is removed.
  3. Continue until exactly one peg remains anywhere. If several pegs remain with no legal jump, undo a move or restart.
  4. Challenges unlock in order. Full game starts with fourteen pegs and hole 1 empty; solving that separate mode does not unlock the challenge levels.

Controls

Click or tap a peg and landing, or drag between them. Arrow keys move the numbered focus; Enter or Space chooses a peg or landing. Escape clears a selection, H requests a hint, P plays the hinted jump and U undoes. Previous hole, Next hole and Choose hole provide the same focus controls. Mode changes, restart and level selection ask for confirmation.

A tip before you start

Keep a route available for isolated edge pegs. Before jumping, look at which neighboring peg can still remove the moving piece later. If Hint reports that no one-peg finish remains, undo to an earlier position and choose another route.

Twenty reachable challenge positions

Every challenge can be reached by legal jumps from the same top-vacant fourteen-peg start. The peg count never decreases as levels advance, from three to fourteen, and each puzzle has a verified one-peg finish. A fixed search visits strictly more states at every level, from 3 to 179. More remaining pegs require more jumps; measured search effort is not a promise of subjective difficulty.

How to beat triangle peg game challenges

Plan for the last few jumps, not only the next available landing. Each move removes one peg, so a position with seven pegs needs exactly six successful jumps to finish. Check whether a move leaves distant pegs unable to meet. Hint can show a move from a verified complete route, and Play hint performs that move.

Full board and challenge progress

Full game always starts with hole 1 empty and all other holes occupied. Its thirteen-jump goal is separate from the shorter teaching positions. You can switch modes after confirming the change; a full-game win leaves the challenge unlock count unchanged.

Mistakes, cancelled touches and Undo

An illegal landing leaves the board unchanged. Leaving the board, opening Help, resizing, losing focus or cancelling a touch clears an unfinished selection. Undo reverses one whole jump after success or failure. Used hints are not refunded, and a position without a one-peg finish gets an honest notice instead of an invented solution.

A numbered board that fits the window

All fifteen holes, peg counts and required controls fit the game area in portrait or landscape. The hole numbers remain visible for both filled and empty positions. Unlocked challenges, best scores and sound save in this browser when storage is available; unfinished boards restart on reload.

A complete triangle peg game solution

Choose Full game and confirm the fresh board: hole 1 is empty. Number the rows from top to bottom as 1; 2–3; 4–6; 7–10; 11–15, reading left to right. This route was computed and replayed against this game’s rules. Expand it when you want the full solution.

  7. Move the peg from hole 13 to hole 6, jumping over and removing the peg in hole 9.
  8. Move the peg from hole 2 to hole 9, jumping over and removing the peg in hole 5.
  9. Move the peg from hole 3 to hole 10, jumping over and removing the peg in hole 6.
  10. Move the peg from hole 15 to hole 6, jumping over and removing the peg in hole 10.
  11. Move the peg from hole 6 to hole 13, jumping over and removing the peg in hole 9.
  12. Move the peg from hole 14 to hole 12, jumping over and removing the peg in hole 13.
  13. Move the peg from hole 11 to hole 13, jumping over and removing the peg in hole 12.

After all thirteen legal jumps, only hole 13 contains a peg. Other valid routes may finish elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

Can the last peg be in any hole?

Yes. Exactly one remaining peg wins, regardless of which hole contains it. The worked example happens to finish in hole 13.

Can I jump diagonally as on a square checkerboard?

Only along the three straight axes of this triangular layout, in either direction. Every jump crosses exactly one adjacent occupied hole into the empty hole immediately beyond it.

What happens if no legal moves remain?

With more than one peg left, the game shows a failed attempt. Undo reopens the previous position, or restart the challenge.

Can Hint recover a position that is no longer solvable?

No. It checks for an actual one-peg finish. If none remains, it tells you to undo instead of displaying a misleading move.

Does finishing a full game unlock challenge levels?

No. Full-game practice and challenge progression are separate. Only winning the selected challenge unlocks the next challenge.

Is this triangular peg solitaire game free?

Yes. The full board and all twenty challenges are free, with no timer, account or download.
