Play Scat Online
The Scat card game asks a small but important question: is your three-card hand good enough to knock? Scat uses the draw-and-discard form of 31. Build your best single suit, give the computer one last chance when you knock, and keep playing until one player runs out of lives. Ten open-table studies teach the timing before you try a complete match. Play free online with no ads or download.
How to play Scat online
- Choose an open-table study or a full computer match and check your best suit total.
- Draw stock or take the top discard. Select a card to discard, keeping a card you just took from the discard pile.
- At the start of a turn, knock when you are ready to face one final reply. A completed 31 ends the round immediately.
- Keep a life advantage through the full match, or finish a study safely within its turn budget to unlock the next one.
Controls
Use Draw stock or Take discard, then tap a hand card and press Discard card. Tap the selected card again or choose Cancel choice to clear it. Keys 1–4 select hand slots; arrows move focus and Enter or Space selects. S draws stock, D takes discard, K knocks, E ends an exhausted-stock round, P discards the selected card, H asks for a hint, G plays it and U or Ctrl+Z undoes a study turn.
A tip before you start
Check the opponent's possible improvement before knocking. A high score helps, but a tied knocker is safe while a knocker who finishes alone at the bottom loses two lives. In an open-table study, compare that final reply with drawing once more.
Three cards, one scoring suit
Each player receives three cards from a standard 52-card deck. An ace is worth 11, a king, queen or jack is worth 10, and other cards use their number. Add only cards in one suit and take your highest suit total. An ace of hearts with a king of hearts and an off-suit nine scores 21. Three different suits score only the highest single card. This version gives no special bonus to three of a kind.
Draw first, then choose what to keep
Take the top card from the face-down stock or the visible discard pile, then discard one card so your hand returns to three. A card you take from the discard pile must stay in your hand for that turn. A card drawn from the stock may be discarded immediately. Only the top discard is available. Selecting or canceling a discard does not reverse the draw.
Knock instead of drawing
You may knock at the beginning of your turn, keeping the hand you already have. The computer gets one final draw and discard, then both hands are compared. The lower score loses one life. If you knocked and tie for the lowest score, you are safe and the other player loses one. If you knocked and finish alone with the lower score, you lose two. There is no extra draw or discard on your knocking turn.
A 31 ends the round immediately
An ace and two ten-point cards in one suit make 31. The game declares it automatically after you finish drawing and discarding, and the other player loses one life. This also applies after a knock. A hand dealt 31 ends the round before normal play; if both players are dealt 31, neither loses a life.
Empty stock and the last life
When the stock is empty, take the top discard or choose End round to compare hands. The discard pile is never reshuffled. If nobody knocked and both scores tie for lowest, both players lose one life. Each player starts with three point-only life tokens. Reaching zero puts you on the county, still in the match; a further loss eliminates you. Losing two while holding one also eliminates you. If both county players go out together in a tie, both remain at zero and another round decides the match.
Ten studies that make the plan longer
The studies deliberately reveal both hands and every remaining stock card, with the next stock card shown at the left. Each starts from a position reached by legal play. Finish the round without losing a life while making the computer lose at least one, within the displayed number of your turns. The shortest guaranteed plans grow from one turn to four, and each lesson increases the number of consequential decisions. The computer uses exact replies in these small open positions. Merely making a good first move does not complete a study.
Practice with the right kind of information
A complete CPU match hides the opponent's hand and stock order. The computer and normal hints use only their own hand, the top discard and the number of stock cards; they are practice advice, not perfect play. Normal matches have no Undo. Studies allow two successful exact hints and whole-turn Undo, including a pending draw and the computer's reply. Undo does not refund hints. If an earlier mistake has removed the safe winning plan, try Undo.
Continue a match or keep your study progress
Next round retains your remaining lives and alternates the dealer. Restart repeats the current seed after confirmation, while New match starts another deal sequence. Unlocked studies, best scores and sound preference are saved locally when storage is available; unfinished matches restart after reloading. Help and Score & rules open separately from the table. Retry loading preserves saved progress if artwork fails, and Retry CPU preserves the position after an unsuccessful computer action. There are no accounts, cash stakes or online multiplayer rooms.
Frequently asked questions
Is Scat the same card game as German Skat?
They have different rules. This Scat is a three-card draw-and-discard game about reaching 31 in one suit. German Skat is a trick-taking game.
Does three of a kind score 30.5?
Not in this version. Only the best single-suit total counts. Other Scat tables use a 30 or 30.5 bonus, so check the profile when changing games.
Can I discard the card I just picked up?
You may discard a card drawn from the stock immediately. You must keep the particular card you took from the discard pile and discard another card instead.
Can I knock after drawing?
No. Here, knocking replaces your whole draw-and-discard turn. Your opponent then gets one final turn.
Am I out when my lives reach zero?
You are still playing on the county at zero. The next loss eliminates you. Losing two lives while holding only one also eliminates you.
Does the computer see my hidden hand?
The normal match computer does not read your hand or the stock order. Teaching studies openly reveal both hands and the stock so their plans can be checked exactly.
Is this Scat card game free with no ads?
Yes. Play free with no ads, account or download. Life tokens are game points, and the opponent is a local computer.
